I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Angela. 10:54, Feb 3, 2004 (UTC)

Zola

[edit]

I was just looking at the Zola page and wanted to congratulate you on the wonderful articles on his novels. Wikipedia is very weak on literature and other arts (see Flaubert) and it's great to find exceptions. -- Simonides 06:12, 23 Jul 2004 (UTC)

  • Um, thanks! It's been a while since I've visited. Fosse8 03:33, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Edit unattribution

[edit]

Hi Fosse. Can you please have a look at Wikipedia:Changing_attribution_for_an_edit/Old_log_5 and compile a list of old IDs that are not you, so they can be reassigned back to the IP. Thanks Kate Turner | Talk 06:45, 2004 Sep 5 (UTC)

  • Um, sure - sorry it's been so long, I'm not sure what I'm meant to do now!

sockpuppets

[edit]

Hi Fosse8, has anyone ever accused you of being a sockpuppet before, particularly of Wonderfool? --Thewayforward 10:18, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Er, not that I'm aware of! I can confidently confirm I am not a sockpuppet.

Hi, I don't know if you're still active on Wikipedia, but I've got a piece of news that might interest you. I'm currently improving the page about the Rougon-Macquart which almost never changed since you created it in 2004. I'm not done yet, I still have a lot of things to add but I think you will agree that's already much better than before. I hope you will find it interesting. By the way, if you've got some English references on Zola or the Rougon-Macquart that might be useful, i will gladly take them, since most of the material available on the Internet about Zola is only in French. Hi. When you recently edited Welsh Development Agency, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Conservative Party (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

WikiProject Wikify: Current Backlog Reduction Plan

[edit]

Hey, I noticed you marked yourself as a member of WikiProject Wikify and you are currently listed as active. I was wondering if you would be able to assist with our current backlog reduction plan. While traditional drives are more structured month-long sprints by WikiProject Wikify members, there is currently lacking activity within the project and in order to significantly reduce the incredible backlog, members are encouraged to review all articles marked with the Underlinked Template Message - {{underlinked}} - a list of which can be found here - to analyze the worthiness of the template message on the given article. Articles that have nothing to link or are have had wikilinks sufficiently added should have the template removed to clear the backlog and make it easier for editors to find articles in genuine need of wikification. This can be done by any editor; however, all editors should consider joining if they haven't done so already. Thank you!

Badbea

[edit]

Hi. A redirect for Badbea had already been created at Badbea (album), ready for anyone who wanted to make an article out of it to do so. There was no need to create the article at a new title as you did with Badbea (Edwyn Collins album). I've requested a page move to take care of it. Thanks. Good article reassessment for Highlanders (rugby union)

Highlanders (rugby union) has been nominated for a good article reassessment. If you are interested in the discussion, please participate by adding your comments to the reassessment page. An article you recently created, Nation Shall Speak Unto Nation, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. [edit]

I think you have missed the point to some extent. I redirected it because it's not clear to me why it meets the notability guidelines other than being by him. No awards, chart placings or similar, and the references don't stand up to scrutiny either.

You must provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that it meets the notability guidelines. Sources that are not acceptable include those linked to the artist or his company, press releases, YouTube, IMDB, social media and other sites that can be self-edited, blogs, websites of unknown or non-reliable provenance, and sites that are just reporting what he or a company claims, or interviews with him. Note that references should be in-line so we can tell what fact each is supporting, and should not be bare urls.

You have bare url refs at the end of the article, rather than in-line, so we have no idea what facts each is supporting, although at first glance they don't seem relevant to any of your text. The Daily Mail is not considered a reliable source anyway. The refs contribute nothing to notability anyway; most are reviews, but notability doesn't depend on what people think of his work, we need objective facts rather than opinions. Also, several of the refs are quoting him, and he's hardly an independent third-party source for his own music.

As it stands, it has no chance of being accepted by a reviewer. I don't mind if you undo my redirect as long as you provide properly formatted in-line refs to better sources Jimfbleak - talk to me? 16:12, 14 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the clear and fair explanation, it's much appreciated.
Just as a general point (and not necessarily directed at you, but since you have administrative status you may be in a position to act!): whilst I've been here roughly as long as you have, I've not created a lot of articles since the very early days, and obviously it's rather more complex now than it was back then when you could just click a red link and type information into the box... However, it seems as though there's still some outdated guidance floating around in the article creation process which probably needs to be fixed - the page that appeared when I was trying to amend the draft to include the sources specifically stated:

Provide your sources.
All articles must cite at least one published, specific, third-party source for the information, such as a book or a page on a reputable website. Please provide a URL or link if you wish to use an internet source. We must be able to verify your source - sources such as Google or "personal knowledge" are not acceptable. Articles without sources may be deleted by other Wikipedians.
If possible use the Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page). format explained in Wikipedia:Footnotes to cite specific claims in the text. Those citations will appear automatically as footnotes in the References section.
Alternatively, just write your sources into the article, or in the reference section, any way you can - as long as the sources are there, someone more experienced will be able to fix the formatting.
If you don't have a relevant "external link" (i.e. a webpage outside Wikipedia) to add, delete the External links section. If you do, use it to replace the example shown.''

So, I completely accept the criticism - again, I've not stayed anywhere near up to date with evolving best practice over the past 20 years and freely admit I didn't do it right - but I think maybe it should be flagged that this "advice" (which I now see contradicts the information in Your First Article) is still showing up if one goes through a particular sequence of steps.
Anyway! More narrowly, in terms of this album's notability, I was confused because I requested an article be created for the artist's previous album, Badbea, which was not only accepted but I was also told the request was redundant because "A redirect for Badbea had already been created at Badbea (album), ready for anyone who wanted to make an article out of it to do so." (scroll up a bit on this very page) - there was nothing about that one (at the time) that was any more notable than this one. I'll wait and add more reviews (and get rid of the Daily Mail, I didn't know that had been deprecated as a source but certainly don't object!) before resubmitting. Thanks again.
